Jesse Goodwin, PhD

Chief Innovation Officer, Medical University of South Carolina


Dr. Goodwin is the Chief Innovation Officer for the Medical University of South Carolina. She also currently holds the roles of Vice President of Development for the Zucker Institute for Applied Neurosciences (ZIAN), a technology accelerator serving the Neurosciences at MUSC and the Director of the Therapeutics Translation Core for the South Carolina Clinical & Translational Research Institute. Prior to these roles, Dr. Goodwin was the Deputy Director of the MUSC Foundation for Research Development (FRD). In these capacities, she effectuates the translation of university innovations into products that improve health and patient care through her ability to strategically plan across multiple aspects of an innovation pipeline and to earn the trust of stakeholders necessary to coalesce support and build collaborations. Tactically, Dr. Goodwin applies an in-depth knowledge of intellectual property and removes operational barriers, inefficiencies and redundancies. As a result, she consistently leads organizations into better partnerships and improved metric-based performance.

Dr. Goodwin came to MUSC from a Boston-based intellectual property (IP) consulting firm where she was Director of the Medical Device division. The firm provided client companies, ranging from small to international, strategic insight on IP matters pertaining to a vast array of medical technologies.

Dr. Goodwin completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program. She holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Stony Brook University.
